Morbi takes major
ICCTAS role - October 25th (page 2)
The appointment of Girishbhai Pethapara
at the helm of ICCTAS comes as a recognition of the
growing strength and the contribution of the Gujarat
manufacturers towards the overall growth of the Indian
ceramic tile industry. More than 70% of the Indian
tile companies are now based in the State with over
200 companies in the region. At present, these companies
are making huge investments in terms of upgrading
their manufacturing units as well as towards capacity
expansions. It is estimated that investments in the
Gujarat cluster over the last three years have been
greater than 15,000m. Rupees, with more to come.
Speaking on his key role, the newly chairman said;
As Chairman of ICCTAS, my priority would be
to accelerate demand generation for ceramic tiles
in the country. The Indian ceramic tile industry has
been growing a healthy rate of 12-15% annually, however,
the growth in local capacities have been far exceeding
the industry growth rate leading to huge over-capacities
prevailing in the market. At the current industry
growth rate, it would take more than three years for
the market to absorb these capacities. Our key steps
to accelerate demand generation will be critical so
that this capacity absorption is faster.
