Morbi gets gas
go-ahead! - November 9th 2006 (page 1)
Gujarat State Petroleum
Corporation Ltd (GSPCL) will invest Rs 1,000 crore
during next two years in a phased manner for laying
pipeline across the state to carry liquefied natural
gas (LNG).
The gas grid activities are being executed by Gujarat
State Petronet Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of GSPCL.
GSPCL also has decided to let out its pipeline for
carrying gas of other major players. It has signed
an agreement with the Shell Hazira Pvt Ltd, which
has been developing its own gas project in Hazira,
on the outskirts of Surat city while talks are on
with LNG Petronet Ltd, which will start operating
by end of 2004 from Dahej, near Bharuch city.
The Shell project is also being expected to take
off by end of next year. The gas grid project has
been progressing at a rapid pace during the last couple
of years.
This is fantastic news for the region's ceramic manufacturers,
as it provides the chance to reduce production costs
to by 15-20% and as such put Morbi onto the world
map in terms of an outsourcing and production venue
and will enable manufacturers to divert more capital
into plant investment.
