Port improvement
will aid exports - November 14th 2006 (page 1)
Improvements to local
transportation infrastructure are set to provide a
massive boost to the Morbi area in terms of companies
finding more cost effective routes for their tile
and sanitaryware exports.
Said Rajkot district
collector, Mona Khandhar, "the capacity of the
Navlakhi port will increase after the completion of
two berths. Following this, we wll devcelop a jetty
in the port ara. We hae signed MoUs for the project
and work is ongoing. The development of the port will
go a long way in promoting Morbi as an industrial
hub."
Development of the Navlakhi
port will provide a major thrust to business in the
area.
"Today, about 4,000 trucks are loaded every day
of which over 1,000 go to southern states like Kerala,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Use of Navlakh
Port for transporting ceramics and tiles instead of
trucks will save between 50-60% in freight charges"
says Patel of Ajanta.
